HISTORY OF CHELSEA:
The Chelsea area of New York City was a significant center for Japanese immigration, particularly during the pre-World War II era, as Japanese porcelain tableware trading companies and offices for Japanese businesses were located there. Japanese immigrants and their companies contributed to the area's economy and formed a unique cultural presence, although this was more of a commercial presence than a residential one, unlike the larger Japanese communities in California.
